Happy Saturn New Year
“Out with the old, in with the new…” Just as we continue to unknowingly worship Saturn while celebrating Christmas, the whole world does the same ringing in the New Year. Saturn (referred to by the Greeks as Cronus or Kronos), the very word means time. Saturn has always been depicted as an old man holding a sickle. He is the keeper of time and order. Saturn symbolizes how time is both destructive and constructive. Saturn’s old decrepit body is a reminder that time is the devourer of all things and that, and like the hourglass e physical vitality will run out. This why Saturn is also associated with and depicted as the Grim Reaper. For Saturn reminds us that we are mortal and will die. But with the promise of children being born, the hourglass inverted, and so a new generation restores the Earth—and with it to a New Year is born. Saturn’s sickle represents the harvest—the destruction of last year’s crop, and the planting of new crops in order to reap the fruits of the current harvest. Saturn also shows us how the gift of time is the serenity and wisdom that are attainable only through the experiences of a long life. In addition, the white beard with which Saturn is frequently depicted indicates that age has given him a new purity and innocence. As we celebrate 2011, make a New Year’s resolution not to waste your precious time chasing gold or wealth like Tomás de Hayos, the father in my book the Eye of Saturn: The Daughters of Saturn, but rather chase peace and love. Together we can make 2011 an awesome year. Remember Saturn is keeping time and is judging us accordingly. Ecclesiastes 3:8 New American Standard Bible "A Time for Everything" A time to give birth and a time to die; A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted. A time to kill and a time to heal; A time to tear down and a time to build up. A time to weep and a time to laugh; A time to mourn and a time to dance. A time to throw stones and a time to gather stones; A time to embrace and a time to shun embracing. A time to search and a time to give up as lost; A time to keep and a time to throw away. A time to tear apart and a time to sew together; A time to be silent and a time to speak. A time to love and a time to hate; A time for war and a time for peace.” Happy New Year! ©2010-2024 Idalita Wright Raso. All rights reserved.
